Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal Treatment

An estimated 64.7 million men and women across the United States are known to be sufferers of the periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is also commonly known as gum disease is a serious dental condition that primarily affects the gum tissue. Progressive stages of the disease can even contribute to the deterioration of the jawbone. At Most Dental, we provide patients with comprehensive periodontal disease therapy, effectively reducing their risks of developing serious complications.

What is Periodontal Therapy?

Periodontal therapy is a preventative gum disease program that is undertaken to prevent and control the disease-causing bacteria from invading healthy tissues of the gums and supporting bone structures. This therapy not only includes in-office treatment but also educates patients with at-home periodontal therapy that they can practice at home in between visits to the dentist's office.

Why is periodontal maintenance therapy essential?

The primary cause of gum disease is the presence of bacterial plaque on the surface of teeth. The presence of such bacteria tends to release harmful toxins that can deteriorate the enamel and gum tissues. Unremoved plaque, in the course of time, hardens to a solid mass known as calculus which sticks to the enamel's surface. Regular brushing and flossing cannot keep away calculus or tartar. Hence, in order to keep your oral cavity free from disease-causing bacteria, it requires the hands-on experience of a dental professional to check and analyze the oral cavity for potential problems. Attack of plaque can lead to the inflammation of healthy gum tissues, result in periodontal pockets, receded and bleeding gums.

As with all of our general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry services, we will make sure that our patients are comfortable throughout the periodontal therapy treatment and that they are apprised of the status of their condition at every appointment. Our goal is to work with our patients every step of the way as we strive to achieve optimal oral health, overall wellness, and a beautiful smile that they can feel proud of.
